And I might well find it a little ‘iffy’ – a little forward, in fact – if a (straight) man I was doing business with put x-es at the bottom of his correspondence. Between females, or – yes - from gay male colleagues, it feels friendly, affectionate (sisterly, even). From a red-blooded heterosexual male, it’s somehow sexist and a tad threatening. I am entirely aware that this is heck of a contradiction – but it’s also a conundrum.
